accept 와 agree의 의미, 뜻, 사용법, 용도 차이 문법 비교

accept와 agree 는 한글로 번역했을 때 뜻이 비슷해서 그 용도를 혼돈하기 쉽습니다.

간단히 정리하자면 무언가를 기꺼이 하는것 (to do)에 대한 동의를 나타낼 때는 agree를 부정사 (an infinitive)와 함께 사용합니다.

*When you want to say that someone expresses their willingness to do something, use agree with an infinitive.

(X) Some people readily accept to work at weekends. 

(O) Some people readily agree to work at weekends. 

(X) Small communities may not accept to be swallowed up by a general European system. 

(O) Small communities may not agree to be swallowed up by a general European system. 

어떤 것(something)이 사실이다, 정당하다, 옳다는 것에 대한 인식을 나타낼 때는 accept를 명사구 (a noun phrase)나 that 절(a that-clause)와 함께 사용합니다. 

*When you want to say that someone recognizes that something is true, fair, or right. It is followed by a noun phrase or a that-clause

Our clients will never accept this proposal. 

The great majority of landowners accept that they must obey the law. 

예를 들어 아래 문장은 accepted 대신 agreed가 사용되어야 합니다. accept는 to와 같이 사용될 수 없고 accept + noun 형태로 사용되어야 하기 때문입니다. 

(X) I had a big surprise this morning because in the post was an invitation to a wedding and of course I've accepted to go.

(O) I had a big surprise this morning because in the post was an invitation to a wedding and of course I've agreed to go. 

아래 문장에서 agree 뒤에 to나 with 등이 없이 바로 명사가 따라오는것은 잘못되었으므로, accepts가 맞습니다.

(X) A contract is initiated when a person makes an offer to buy something and the seller agrees his or her offer.

(O) A contract is initiated when a person makes an offer to buy something and the seller accepts his or her offer.

아래 두 문장은 괄호와 같은 표현이 생략된 것으로 볼 수 있으므로 두 문장 모두 맞는 표현입니다. 

(O) He asked me to marry him and I accepted (his proposal).

(O) He asked me to marry him and I agreed (to marry him).
